Shop Talk: Oculus Go – The End of An Era
When Oculus announced last week they’re discontinuing the Oculus Go headset it marked the end of an era, yet the start of a new, more exciting one. The Oculus Go was a good headset, for what it provided – a taste of wearing a VR headset via the masses. This significantly helped bridge a gap between the simple Google Cardboard based designs and the higher end 6DOF (Degrees of Freedom) tethered headsets.
The success of the newer Oculus Quest altered the market for the Oculus Go which is now narrower than ever. Oculus acknowledges the future of VR is in interactive 6DOF experiences also revealing they won’t be pushing any more 3DOF products after the Go.
This move, by one of the largest names in the VR industry, sets the stage for a more exciting future in VR where headsets are more affordable, capable and available to everyone!
